Hiking Trails for Families
Does your idea of family adventure include hikes and fun? The Sicó Outdoor Centre’s hiking trails are the right choice! Well-signposted, circular routes with short to moderate distances and no major climbs have the potential to please everyone. After all, who doesn’t like strolling alongside a crystal-clear river, across a Roman bridge straight out of a period film or through landscapes taken from fairytale books?
On the Bonfim Trail, the family adventure begins by the river in Nabão Verde Park and continues past historic chapels and places where time seems to stand still, such as the 17th-century Ponte da Cal, linked to the legend of Queen Saint Isabel and the tradition of the holy baths.
The Ribeira do Tordo Trail takes you along quiet paths between springs, windmills and fields of flowering watercress. Here, the highlight is the Olho do Tordo, a magical spring that flows from a deep well. On the Ramalhal Trail, you will travel further back in time, discovering traditional villages and the Rego da Murta dolmens, megalithic tombs that are more than 4,000 years old!
Family Cycle Routes
Prefer cycling as a family? The Sicó Outdoor Centre also offers cycling programmes – a fun and safe way to explore nature, ideal even for those who no longer need training wheels but are still getting the hang of it! Just search for the Cyclin’ Portugal Centres’ Green Routes – with flatter trails and wide, well-marked paths – perfect for leisurely mountain biking with no challenging climbs!
Gentle paths along the River Nabão? P11 Green – Ansião is the ideal circuit for those taking their first steps in mountain biking but who also want to enjoy some quality family time. However, with its wide, flat trails among peaceful olive groves, P1 Green – Alvaiázere is also perfect for parents, children and grandparents, featuring paths designed for all ages and all levels of experience!
More accessible and obstacle-free routes? P2 Blue – Alvaiázere is an excellent choice for families that enjoy discovering historical landmarks while cycling on dirt tracks.
A family on wheels? Don’t forget!
