Get ready to start pedalling from the Cyclin’Portugal Centres in Alvaiázere and Ansião, on a network of cycle routes organised by level of difficulty so that both beginner and more experienced cyclists can find their pace.
Discover the essence of the region on a cross-country mountain bike, road bike or gravel bike, taking advantage of support services for a successful adventure: information boards, water supply areas, toilets, changing rooms and service stations.
The best part? The Cyclin’Portugal Centres cycle routes, while focused on their respective territories, can be linked so that in a single visit, you can cross landscapes, villages and towns in two neighbouring municipalities without losing your way or your enthusiasm!

Cross-Country Mountain Biking

On the Sicó Outdoor Centre’s cross-country mountain bike routes, you’ will ride along wide tracks, dive into winding singletracks and tackle technical sections that will put your endurance to the test. And after finishing the thrilling climbs and descents through rugged mountain ranges, you can take home more than just a physical achievement: a collection of breathtaking landscapes and a trove of stories whispered by nature.
Still gaining experience? On P13 Blue – Ansião, you can cycle calmly along country lanes to the parish of Avelar on a trail that takes you to the legendary Olhos d’Água. And on P3 Blue – Pelmá, climb up to the breathtaking views over the Ribeira das Quebradas, passing by the imposing Megalapiás “Homem Velho” (Old Man) and the enigmatic dolmens of Rego da Murta.
Many hours in the saddle? Try P14 Red – Ansião, with demanding singletracks leading all the way to Santiago da Guarda, passing the Melriça windmill and the Nabão Green Park. And if you prefer an adventure on steep slopes, you can opt for P5 Red – Alvaiázere and circle the Serra de Alvaiázere, the highest point in the Sicó Massif, with 360-degree views and breathtaking rock formations.
The harder the better? P15 Black – Ansião takes you over rough terrain, technical trails and sections that only the most determined cyclists can overcome. And the most demanding route of the Cyclin’Portugal Centre, P6 Black – Alvaiázere, puts your physical endurance to the test between the rugged mountains and the Gramatinha Intermunicipal Ecological Park, a natural sanctuary with the largest stretch of Portuguese Oak (Carvalho-Cerquinho) in Europe.
Road Cycling
How about a trip along low-traffic municipal roads, where silence and tranquillity prevail? The road cycling routes, prepared by the Sicó Outdoor Centre and available at the Ansião Cyclin’Portugal Centre, are the best way to train for challenging climbs while enjoying panoramic views and discovering the picturesque villages and other places of cultural interest that are part of the spirit of the region.
Looking for leisurely excursions? On P22 Blue – Ansião, you can cycle along quiet roads and gentle climbs to the Serra da Portela, an ideal place to enjoy panoramic views over the Pousaflores Valley. And on P23 Blue – Ansião, you can explore the western part of the municipality and take a break at the Melriça Viewpoint, the highest point in the Serra de Sicó, with a geodesic landmark marking the centre of Portugal.
Enjoy challenges on two wheels? Try P24 Red – Ansião, where you can tackle intense climbs around the Serra da Portela, passing through Pousaflores, Avelar and the Monumental Complex of Santiago da Guarda. Now, if you prefer to explore the municipality in greater depth, take P25 Red – Ansião, which runs along an extensive network of low-traffic roads to the south, passing Quinta de Cima in Chão de Couce, a former 13th-century royal palace that hosted personalities such as Egas Moniz and José Malhoa.

P33 Black – Ansião even passes through the Alvaiázere Welcome Centre, ensuring a comprehensive exploration experience!

On P31 Red – Ansião, you can cycle along the Nabão River to Anjo da Guarda, passing iconic sites such as the Santiago da Guarda Parish Church and the charming Senhor do Bonfim Chapel. And on P32 Red – Ansião, you can explore wide tracks between vineyards and olive groves, immersing yourself in the rural essence of the region.
